Dolce & Gabanna Slammed After Naming A Shoe The 'Slave Sandal'
People are not happy about Dolce & Gabanna's new shoe.
It appears that Dolce & Gabanna's latest shoe has totally missed the mark.
The multicoloured sandal, which is controversially named the 'Slave Sandal' is now available on the Dolce & Gabanna website for $2,395.
The shoe, which is adorned with pompoms, mirrored embellishments and gold, was first showcased in the brand's spring 2016 collection called "a declaration of love to Italy," however unlike other brands, who prefer to use the term gladiator sandal, Dolce & Gabanna have gone with the word slave.
However, it's not the first time a designer has been branded culturally inappropriate, with Valentino slammed for using all white models for his African-inspired runway shoe and ASOS used a man of colour to model a T-shirt emblazoned with the slogan 'Slave'.
In 2012, Adidas were forced to pull a pair of "handcuff" trainers that featured shackles at the ankles, due to its offensive reference to a symbol of African slavery.
